This class action relates to the violations of privacy, dignity and image rights of Québec residents by Clearview AI Inc. (hereinafter Clearview). Clearview is an American company offering facial recognition services. It collects and reproduces in its database billions of photographs of individuals’ faces published on the Internet. It also extracts the biometric data of the individuals in these photographs and other associated personal information. Biometric data, like fingerprints, is sensitive and personal to every individual. Clearview sells access to this database, consisting of billions of photographs of faces, biometric information and other personal information used for facial recognition purposes, without the consent of the individual concerned. By doing so, Clearview illegally collects, uses and discloses the images and other personal information of Québec residents.
On October 29, 2024, the Superior Court authorized this class action against Clearview on behalf of the following individuals:
All individuals who, since August 18, 2017, have had their facial images and personal information collected, used or disclosed by Clearview while they were residents of Quebec.

One of the objectives of this class action is to obtain financial compensation for class members. (Please note that there is currently no judgment or settlement awarding such compensation).
